Ike as a student of market, unknowledgable and naive, i value highly the opportunity to read your thread
perhaps because i am naive, i don't see a contradiction in shorting a stock while the market rises or going long while the market falls, if analysis/system supports such a transaction
this may be where the previous poster takes issue with 'bull' statement, on the other hand, i find your 'targets' well illustrated, now if i could only increase my comprehension to fully utilize such experience and knowledge, i would be a very happy man :)
being a neophyte, i trade equities for now and struggle with learning about software systems, trading techniques and am also reading about options and futures
since my lack of experience prohibits me from buying puts, i short, when my 'decision' criteria is met, and not market indicies, but individual stocks (indicies are an unknown monster to me, yet)
i go long the same way, by analysis of individual stocks, while attempting to glean trends in my own, perhpas uneducated, way
best wishes, and i must say Jeff and Susan do their best to educate me, though i think sometimes they feel it is a struggle ;)
