I must express a contrarian belief - 56K is a small segment of the RAS market and while it may be more visible at the moment it is a negligible aspect of the ISP business. You will find that ASND will make its numbers quite handily and will therefore be seen as among the strongest of the network companies. The acquisition of CSCC will enhance that, IMHO, and with the realignment of Ascend's business units to accomodate the Cascade technologies there will be substantial synergies. Shifting the NetStar (GRF family) to being under the Cascade aegis will give Cascade's employees new optimism for the company's future.
The key to success here is to avoid a replication of the Bay phenomenon - and Bay serves as a model on what to avoid. Can the 2 managements meld and exert the kind of leadership required to avoid that fiasco? Only time will tell but it appears that they well understand the need.
Technologically this is a fine, fine fit so the challenge will be to get the story out and to reverse CSCC's trend in a hurry. If you're a long term investor in ASND this is good and smart.
There may even be a turnaround later today but surely in the next 2 weeks as this is all digested in its own right and as it pertains to the broadest definition of the network infrastructure industry.
