Goldman Earnings Estimates Raised by Morgan Stanley's McVey

New York, Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s earnings estimates were raised by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. analyst Henry McVey, who cited the firm's strength in underwriting and mergers advisory in a note to clients.

McVey increased his estimate for the quarter ending August 31 to $1.18 a share from $1.12. He now predicts Goldman will earn $4.64 a share in fiscal 1999, compared with a previous estimate of $4.58.

``The reality is that 1999 has been GS's type of market: strong equity underwriting, particularly in technology, robust M&A and continued volatility in the capital markets,' McVey said in his report. ``As such, we feel comfortable tweaking our earnings estimate, despite a bumpier trading environment.'.........
