Yes, pretty rude, although I had a bit of an inkling that she might be failing. The thing is, she had had rough patches before, and she was supposed to have died several years ago (congestive heart failure), and she kept managing to live on her own, so it was hard to say if anything was going to be "the end". One of the eerie things was that a thunderstorm had knocked out power in our area when we arrived home, and therefore we were without power for several hours. Of course, the phone worked, but it seems to have been late in the evening when she finally died, and my answering machine was off, or I might have heard that she was failing. Then my son gets on the computer, and I get an e- mail posted after midnight from one of my brothers about this...
