Cascade does have ATM products but only for ISPs while Fore
has a rich ATM product line not only for the WAN but also for the
LAN. Fore would also provide an entry into the ATM NIC, Gigabit
Ethernet, switch Ethernet, etc. A combination of the three would
be very competitive across all CSCO product lines except routers.

Networking has become a mature industry, and I think Ascend and
Cascade must have realized that only the big players survive. Two
years from now there will be 3 or 4 big players and those that move
the fastest will survive. This scenario makes bidding wars
very likely. Exciting times ahead!
