One of the first questions I asked when I started on this thread was how many bits/sec could you push across the cable wire if it was not for that bandwidth wasting analog TV.

Dave Horne (I think) answered 4 Terabit. I've been a hardcore ATHM believer ever since. Who needs fiber to the home? Whats all the fuss about cable being bandwidth limited?

Since then I've realized that the issues in converting all that fantastic bandwidth to IP are complex and extremely political. Its already been assigned to "the food channel" "HBO #4" and interactive TV. Yuk.

So will it be easier to lay a completely new fiber wire or figure how to send TV over a 4 terabit IP link? I'm not sure.

I do find it interesting that TJ is talking about this now. Maybe they are starting to push for more channels assigned to internet service.
