I don't feel like "cutting and pasting" specific references to your post ....

But my "ex's" company was considered a "small business". They had about 50 employees and $15+ million/annually in business.

His "best buddy" with approx 200 employees and $30 million/annually was considered a "small to medium-sized businesss".

That's why I also hate this "small to mid-size" business terminology. Doesn't tell you the real picture.

When most hear the term "small business" ... they think of some mom & pop shop. In reality, it's a very broad range.

I have no idea what SBA is using as a qualifier. I imagine much smaller that what I've mentioned. But the "small to mid-sized (<1,000 employees) has been used in various business publications I've read.

One of the past publishers [early '90's] of INC. magazine is a very good friend of mine. Their target audience is "small to mid-size" businesses. Take a look at their INC 500 published each year. No mom & pop shops on that list.
