Darrell, are you sure you want to be on record here as referring to Colin Powell as "boy"???
You are the one who is confused. Affirmative action is referred to on these boards as a system of preferences. I am against this. But so is Gen. Powell. In his autobiography, "My American Journey", which was published in 1995, Gen. Powell wrote:
"The present debate over affirmative action has a lot to do with definitions. If affirmative action means programs that provide equal opportunity , then I am all for it. If it leads to preferential treatment or helps those who no longer need help, I am opposed ."
Ever read the book? If you do, you'll find a man of broad vision who exemplifies high morals, patriotism, a desire for a strong military, a global vision, and a free, democratic society.
I don't care what race he is. He's a very capable man, as George Bush realized when appointing him to such high office.
Many people who don't care for Powell's skin color have twisted his words supporting "equal opportunity" to mean that he supports preferences. Now why would they do this? He's not their "boy"???? |
