The last state elections (governor and all state offices) was a democratic sweep. Its the worst the republicans have done in California since the Nixon checkers speech, almost 50 years ago. There have been a lot of pundits trying to figure out what went wrong but in general I think a number of republican policies came together last year and in total just angered too many people. These are anti-choice, illegal immigration issues where republicans appear racist, Guns - too much violence out here, then the environment and gay issues, pretty much in that order. All that together and the impeachment thing which was extremely unpopular and that was it for them. A bunch of articles surfaced that said California hasn't elected a pro-life governor, president or US senator since Ronald Reagan. The general consensus is pro-life candidates can't win here.
