<Investment opportunities for Y2k--is there a particular area people aretalking about this currently? I can't find one.>

There aren't any. Market is over-valued. Institutional investors will soon be "taking money off the table". Some have already started. Lot of "churning" and day-trading volatility [on low volume] going on.

Everyone will get hurt [by 4th quarter]. IMHO - Real mistake to go into anything long right now.

Some say gold. Goldman Sachs has taken a big long position in gold. But, at same time they've had a huge short-position. So, you don't know which way they're gonna play it.

I'm mostly cash right now. Only long positions I have are in gold [which I got near the low]. And I've shorted some selective internet stocks. Not the "blue chips". Primarly those with lock-up expirations .....

Cash position is safest until we see where the dominoes fall. Smart idea to lock in profit and take some cash off the table. Sit back and wait for right opportunity.

IMHO
