HERE IS A DIRECT QUOTE:

John Casesa, automobile analyst at Merrill Lynch

CBS-MW
How seriously are these car companies taking the evolving technology of electric cars? Are they investing in them?

Casesa: They take both electric cars and even these hybrid fuel cell vehicles very seriously. The idea of a practical fuel cell (vehicle) is just beginning to gain acceptance in Detroit. It could turn out to be a very good thing for the auto industry because it makes cars cleaner, cheaper, more reliable and it may also reduce their costs and thus their price and therefore boost demand. So it could really rekindle interest in the product.
