Wal-Mart Selected by CIO Magazine as a Top 100 Company to Excel in The 21st Century
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT - news) has been named by CIO magazine as a recipient of the 1999 CIO-100 award. In its twelfth year, the CIO-100 award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence. Wal-Mart has received this honor eleven of the twelve years it has been awarded.
This year's CIO-100 awards focus on the survival and success in the new millennium. Wal-Mart was recognized as possessing the strategy, ability and drive to prosper well into the next century. According to CIO magazine, organizations that make the CIO-100 list must ``know their customers, leverage the Internet, invest in people, innovate like crazy and completely reinvent themselves if necessary.'
``We are continually developing our information systems to work more efficiently and cost effectively with our suppliers. Our focus is on delivering the best assortment of merchandise at every day low prices, with the end goal always being to better serve our customers,' said Randy Mott, senior vice-president and chief information officer. ``Our associates who develop and implement our systems deserve the credit for this recognition.'
The winners of this year's CIO-100 were selected through a three-step process. First, a panel of 18 academicians, consultants and analysts nominated the companies they felt best fit our criteria for being well positioned to succeed beyond 1999. Then, CIO magazine staff conducted extensive research on the 151 nominees via the Web and other sources. Finally, a team of CIO editors and writers voted on the 100 companies that they felt best met the requirements.
