Ross representatives said:
--suggest large trials for DHA use
--said no proof of safety or efficacy as they see from trials so far
--all published studies to date (except 2)have used fish oil
--said studies to date have "limitations"; didn't elaborate as I heard
--said pediatricians can use DHA/ARA supplements now on market if they
felt they were needed.

From all the evidence I heard, realizing my technical understanding limitations, it was clear that a) ample evidence exists
that DHA/ARA oils of Martek are safe and b) do benefit infants.

As I see it, more studies could be done to better measure the exact
benefit of using the oils, but this shouldn't hold up using them in
formula. The Ross comments were so out of line with the evidence,
that is why I made my "professional prositituion" comment. Note that
at no time did Ross people say they believe DHA/ARA additives were
bad--- just that use should be "studied" more.

The fact that Ross said pediatricians coulduse the oils if they felt it useful was a significant statement from my viewpoint. It told
me they see no harm; otherwise they should not have said it ok for
any form of use. So I guess it all adds up to what Martek people think, ie Ross really just doesn't want ot spend for something which
would add to the cost of their formula. But, I guess they will
after other companies begin to take market share from them.
