Intraocular contact lenses (ICL) are placed inside the eye in the front part of the eye. There are various types: some are attached to the iris or rest against the iris (the colored part of the eye) or are placed behind the iris just in front of the natural lens of the eye.
The eye must be opened (sliced) to put the lens inside whether it's through the cornea or just behind the cornea through the sclera...the eye must be opened up to put the lens inside.
