LUXURY car-maker Mercedes Benz India Ltd (MBIL) has shortlisted a clutch of four offerings - the Jeep, the Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee and the Neon - from US car maker Chrysler's stable, for launch in India.
The MBIL Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Till Becker de Freitas, however, told Business Line the real battle for the Indian roads was likely to be between the Cherokee models. ``We want to get into the upper end of the market for premium multi-utility vehicles (MUVs), which is empty right now despite demand from the market.'
The company has already wrapped up extensive market research on the requirements of the Indian car market and worked out the pricing, the volumes required for running a viable business and the price of spares, among other things. ``The four models fit our bill perfectly,' he said, adding however, that the company was now waiting for a formal go-ahead from the parent company....... hindubusinessline.com |
