Compaq sells computers on-line in LatAm

MEXICO CITY, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corporation
(NYSE:CPQ - news) will be selling computers over the Internet
throughout Latin America by the end of September, a spokeswoman
said on Monday.

Compaq launched its first virtual store in Latin America in Mexico on April 15. Argentina, Colombia and
Venezuela followed.

''We are waiting to have more countries up and running before we announce it and can talk about
results,'' Maria Silvina Moschini, public relations manager for Compaq told Reuters.

Brazil already has an on-line Compaq store, but it will be redesigned and relaunched to match the rest
of the Latin American on-line stores, she said.

Speaking by telephone from Houston, Moschini said by the end of September Compaq will be selling
on-line throughout the region.

Moschini said that the company guarantees delivery within 72 hours of Compaq computers bought
on-line. Latin Americans shopping on line can buy the computers in local currency and do not have to
bring the computers through customs, she said.

Compaq has offices in Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, Puerto Rico, Colombia
and Peru.
