That push past Dow 11,000 was on account of Hewlett-Packard (HWP +4 5/16), IBM (+4), General Electric (GE +2 1/16), and American Express (AXP +1 5/16). The Nasdaq was impressive today. Nice morning surge of +24 points, then in the red by -15 points, eventually to rally back into green territory in less than 1 hour before the close.

Besides that, it was quiet day to catch up on June and July IPO research. Now which ones are completing their quiet period and are down 30-50% from the high ? Hhmmm.

NYSE:
Advancers 1383
Decliners 1560
Volume 580 mln <--- Wow. Lowest I've seen this year.

Nasdaq:
Advancers 1867
Decliners 1973
Volume 764 mln

Sector Watch Tech Indications
Strong: disk drive; PC; drugs; airlines; retail
Weak: chemicals; gold; auto; brokerage; oil drilling ; networking; chip

I like SEG, MXTR in the disk drive sector. PC - DELL. Airlines - SKYW with an upgrade today. Looks like Salomon upgraded a bunch of Airlines today. Retail - I like the GPS, and ANF.
