The abuse of "presently" irritates me because it fosters imprecise communication. It is not always clear from context whether the user means "now" or "soon", and it is an area in which real confusion is possible. I shall continue to scoff privately at those who say "presently" when they mean "now", though I shall avoid the temptation to nitpick in public.
