How about to avoid a lawsuit. If the deal is done at 7.25, why is the stock holdiong firm at 7 9/16? No, I am afraid the deal will get done at no lower than 8; probably 9 to 10. Remember too that the Calgene employees hold many options which are worth very little at 7.25 and Monsanto doesn't want unhappy Calgene employees to be leaving in mass.
