received this fascinating y2k compliant/caveat/warning/legalise/implied threat etc., all in 2 paragraphs today in one of my zero cost drips. It is from a major RBOC

i offer it in the spirit of enlightenment, both underscoring the problem and this one RBOC's 'solution.' Some solution :(

Dear Shareholder:
In a continuing effort to provide superior corporate trust and stock transfer services, the Corporate Trust Services Group has installed a new shareholder recordkeeping and accounting system. The installation was completed during the second quarter. The system is year 2000 compliant and offers new technology to better serve our corporate clients and their shareholders.

For your records, we are furnishing a duplicate statement of year to date transactions processed on the old system preconversion. This data has not been converted to the new system and will not be available in the future. Future statements will reflect only the closing balance from this statement and post conversion transactions.

now why doesn't' this insert make me feel better about my company's prosperity and continuation in the new millenium?

And this is just the Corporate Trust Services Group's accounting software. yuck!

have heard absolutely NOT ONE single peep out of them about the y2k compliance of their phone equipment and 'dial tone' availability. but by god, i know know that my shares are 'all accounted for' out to three hundredth decimal point.

maybe if phone service fails, i could kinda roll one up and put it up to my ear as a hearing aide/megaphone type earhorn???
