I suspect they did sell all of the IPO shares. I got some directed shares, but only 30 percent of what I asked for. That seems to indicate that they had more takers than shares. I used them to buy life insurance previously. The impressive thing is that the quote I got beat the pants off of anything else -- no other policy even came close. The trick here is -- for a lot of people who have some minor health problem and still want significant amounts of insurance -- is finding the policy that has the exact leeway that you need. Quotesmith did that for me. I never would have found the policy otherwise. A free medical technician visited me in my office and gave me the whole physical on the spot -- blood and EKG to boot. There is a premium war going on at the moment. As long as there is competition, companies will set up criteria that work in an actuarial sense. The trick will be to find the right policy to meet your individual needs. I think it's only a matter of time before people warm up to the idea of selecting their own policy without an agent walking them thru every step. One of the posts said that some companies offer 1700 choices vs. 300. I think 300 may be too many to choose from, especially if you want decent debt and service ratings. How would you wade thru that 1700 offering haystack? Take a look at the policy qualification criteria and you'll know what I mean.
