Scalia, I would agree. He has on occasion voted in ways which went contrary to his personal beliefs because he was being faithful to his view of original intent.

Renquist is, IMO, an opportunist who uses the excuse of original intent to press his personal feelings. I think he dislikes government, and the bigger it is the more he dislikes it. Not that that is bad, but I don't think it arises from his view of the founders intent but is his opinion which he defends by invoking original intent. I have never seen him cast a vote which went against his personal views in order to maintain a principled position.

O'Connor and Kennedy confuse the heck out of me. Do you see any real consistency in their opinions?

Thomas I think is a lightweight and was put there because he was not bright enough to pull an Earl Warren. He is a safe conservative vote for the next 30 or 40 years.

For my money, Scalia is the pick of the bunch both for straight smarts and for integrity to principle.

But all that said, I really don't follow the court that carefully since I don't practice in the federal courts. I pick up bits and pieces here and there reading the odd opinion and articles mostly in Lawyers Weekly and looking at voting records on issues that interest me (most of their opinions don't) or cases of obvious national importance, but I wouldn't even try to defend those views against any well presented attack.
