No, I never read 1984. It was in my stack of stuff to read a few years ago but it always got bumped in favor of something else, usually a sci-fi yarn by A.E. van Vogt or Robert A. Heinlein. I have read his essay Politics and the English Language though.

Your orthography reform sounds a little startling. I hope that by stressing the phonology you don't lose the etymology. It seems that with the passage of time that will happen.

I would not be so bold as to tell the Germans what to do, but is it such a good idea to force the language like this? I always thought language was organic and evolved on its own. Not that we shouldn't have "gatekeepers". There is disagreement here in America about what new words should go into a dictionary. Some dictionary makers want to include every latest street jargon term that appears on MTV, while some others are a little more reserved. I am considering getting the Oxford English Dictionary.
