Sun-Netscape alliance aims to double India sales

August 17, 1999 07:03 AM
BANGALORE, India, Aug 17 (Reuters) - An alliance between Sun Microsystems SUNW and America Online's AOL Netscape said on Tuesday it expected to double Indian revenues from sales of Internet software solutions in the year ending June 2000.

"We expect to double our revenue growth year-on-year in India," K. Sugumaran, Sun-Netscape's country sales director, told a news conference.

"We intend to increase our market share in the Internet service provider (ISP) market to 90 percent from the existing 75 percent," he said.

He did not give details of current revenue.

Bhaskar Pramanik, Sun Micro's India managing director, said the Sun-Netscape alliance would focus on sales to the large enterprise computing sector and business-to-business e-commerce after its success in the ISP sector.

The Sun-Netscape alliance also announced a tie-up with Wipro Ltd for the sole distribution of its "iPlanet" brand of software products in India.
