Global Crossing, Alcatel, Impsat In Supply
Pact

NEW YORK -- Global Crossing Ltd. (GBLX) signed agreements with
Alcatel SA (ALA), Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) and Impsat Corp.
(E.IMS) to extend its network to South American cities.

In a press release Tuesday, Global Crossing said it signed an agreement
valued at about $700 million for Alcatel to design, manufacture and install the
South American system.

Alcatel also agreed to provide $100 million worth of contracts over the next
five years to Global Crossing's Global Marine Systems Ltd. unit.

The unit will provide marine support on a ship-availability basis.

The agreement replaces an earlier contract for the construction of the
undersea system.

Global Crossing said Lucent agreed to provide its optical networking
equipment for the terrestrial part of the project.

Lucent will provide its 80-channel WaveStar OLS 400G dense wave division
multiplexing systems and BandWidth Manager.

Global Crossing plans to use Lucent's TrueWave Reduced Slope optical
fiber.

Global Crossing said Impsat agreed to provide backhaul networks and
telehouses for the trans-Andean terrestrial link of the South American
network.

Impsat also agreed to buy at least $46 million worth of network capacity.

The two companies plan to sign a non-exclusive co-marketing agreement to
combine Impsat's Pan American distribution network with Global Crossing's
network.

Global Crossing expects the system will begin operating by 2001.
