TWEC.COM's New Site Features Enhanced Selection and Functionality

ALBANY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 17, 1999--

Web Site Offers More Than 450,000 Music, Movie and Game Titles

Trans World Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq National Market: TWMC), today announced
the re-launch of its web site, The Web's Entertainment Center (www.twec.com). The content
and technical improvements to the site include new functionality and flexibility in the
delivery of content as well as increased selection and improved navigation.
"In addition to being able to purchase products quickly, users want to view artist
biographies, album reviews, liner notes and other extended content about their favorite
artists," said Robert J. Higgins, chairman and chief executive officer of Trans World
Entertainment. "We realize our customers are looking for an easier way to obtain products
and are excited by the potential of this new site to introduce more people to the Trans
World brand and to the artists we represent."
Along with improved content and a new look and feel, the TWEC.COM re-launch includes a
complete revamp of the underlying e-commerce technology. The e-commerce technology
provided by Systems1, a Saratoga Springs, NY-based web development company, consists of a
back-end architecture that uses a distributor-based model. The new architecture also
gives TWEC.COM the flexibility to add an unlimited number of product categories to the
site and to select "best of breed" content from among multiple sources for each product
group.
The web site expands TWEC.COM's worldwide distribution into 16 countries and offers
more than 400,000 music titles and over 80,000 movie titles.
