Infowave joins wireless application protocol forum

Membership supports global standard and lays groundwork
for new wireless products

BURNABY, BC, Aug. 17 /CNW/ - Infowave Software, Inc. (VSE:IWM) today
announced that it has been accepted as a member of the Wireless Application
Protocol Forum (WAP). WAP is the de-facto worldwide standard for providing
Internet communications and advanced data services on digital mobile phones,
pagers, personal digital assistants and other wireless devices.

The primary goal of the WAP Forum is to bring together companies from all
segments of the wireless industry value chain to ensure product
interoperability and growth of the wireless market. WAP Forum members
represent over 90% of the global handset market, carriers with more than 100
million subscribers, leading infrastructure providers, software developers and
other organizations providing solutions to the wireless industry.

``We are pleased to be accepted as a member of the WAP Forum,' says Ron
Jasper, VP of Marketing at Infowave. ``As a standards-based company, we're
always interested in supporting initiatives that promote open standards and
the adoption of wireless technologies. This membership will enable us to
provide input for this important standard and will provide the necessary
groundwork for introducing new Infowave products covering all wireless device
types.'

Infowave's wireless products, Infowave for Exchange and Infowave for the
Net, are the most advanced and secure wireless solutions for connecting mobile
workers to key corporate information and applications. Infowave's latest
product, code name Kodiak, is low-cost desktop software that allows wireless,
mobile access to Outlook data, such as e-mail, calendars, contacts and task
lists from pagers and cell phones.

About WAP Forum

The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is the de facto world standard
for wireless information and telephony services on digital mobile phones and
other wireless terminals. Handset manufacturers representing more than 75
percent of the world market across all technologies have committed to shipping
WAP-enabled devices. Carriers representing nearly 100 million subscribers
worldwide have joined WAP. This commitment will provide tens of millions of
WAP browser-enabled products to consumers by the end of 2000. WAP allows
carriers to strengthen their service offerings by providing subscribers with
the information they want and need while on the go. The WAP Forum has
published a global wireless protocol specification based on existing Internet
standards such as XML and IP for all wireless networks.
