Let me throw in my two cents. What I see is the Microsoft limitations start to become more evident as technology progresses. The Raphosdy OS will or is the best (currently) operating system to continue the migration of the desktop towards the workstation and mainframe segment. I believe Ellison sees this as well. What better platform to blend into the entriprise systems than a Unix derivatitive. Ellison cannot make formal bid for Apple from Oracle, too much media attention and focus which is too risky for Oracle at this time. Although he would like a personal stake as to better foster the working relationship of the two compainies in the future. Apple can with the right marketing become a dominant player in the PC area once again. Although Microsoft will not give in without a fight. this is why the stock is so low is the Street does not believe that Apple with superior technology can outmarket Microsoft. Come 1998 we will see. It should be fun to watch, I just hope I can make some money off this situtation.
