The deal with Office Depot is quite interesting.

Office Depot (the largest retailer of office products in the world) is establishing a line of "top-quality office products" of their own that will carry the Smith Corona brand name. Office Depot says, Smith Corona is "one of the most respected business-machine companies in the world." Brand name recognition is apparently what Office Depot wants.

"The branded products for Office Depot will be offered independently of other products marketed by Smith Corona..."

Smith Corona will get royalties from this deal, so SCCO will have NO Cost of Goods associated with these products.

Office Depot has nearly 800 stores worldwide, on-line sales, and they sell through their Viking catalog business.

I wonder if Office Depot plans to make Smith Corona their "house brand?"
