BP Amoco says to trial online petrol pumps

LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Oil major BP Amoco Plc said on Tuesday that it would trial petrol pumps which offer motorists
access to online services such as weather forecasts and traffic information from early next year.

``We're not talking about motorists surfing the Web at the pump but rather touchscreens where they can call up specific services,'
a BP Amoco spokesman said.

He said the first such Internet pump would be tested in Japan early next year and that a further six sites in the United States would be targeted in the first half of next
year.

The trials stem from a three-year deal BP Amoco has signed with pump supplier Tokheim Corporation (NYSE:TOK - news) of the United States. The deal,
announced on Tuesday, covers the majority of BP Amoco's operations in the U.S., Europe, Mexico and Venezuela.

The Tokheim dispensers include Microsoft's Windows CE (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) operating system. The system facilitates links between the pump and central
computer system and allows prompt maintenance and servicing to be carried out.

The BP Amoco spokesman said that with this system incorporated it was relatively easy to offer filtered information from the Internet. It was too early to say whether
motorists would have to pay to use the services, he added.
