As you know from my last letter, MindSpring is about to launch a major
marketing campaign. It is an important time for us to grow, we think.
We are now the fifth largest ISP in the U.S., with about one and a
quarter million customers. We want to be number two, and we want to get
there soon! It would do a lot to ensure our long-term success, and our
long-term ability to provide you with the technologies and services that
you will want.
So, we'll be advertising on TV, on the radio, on bus stops - you name it.
And we'll be working with other companies to help promote our service.
But you know, that is not the way we have gotten most of our customers
in the past, and it is not our favorite way to get new customers.
Throughout our history, our most productive growth engine by far
has been referrals and recommendations from our existing customers.
You are still doing a good job of generating those referrals, but we'd
like to crank up growth to a higher level. And, we've realized that
rather than spend our marketing money in "the channel" or "the media,"
we'd really rather spend it with you, our customers.
So here is the deal: starting today and lasting through the end of
September, we will credit your account by $60 for every person that
you refer to MindSpring. Plus, we'll give a $60 credit to the person
you refer.
Here are the particulars:
* To get the $60 credits, the person you refer must call 1-888-MSPRING
between now and September 30, 1999 and sign-up for a new MindSpring
account. To get the special deal they need to say "I'd be happier
using MindSpring" to the sales representative. They *will* be happier!
We promise.
* The person you refer must prepay the first month's service with a
credit card.
* Your $60 credit will appear on your invoice the following month.
* The $60 credit for the person you refer will appear on his or her
invoice as a $10 credit each month for the next six months (starting
with month two).
* Referral credit is good for all MindSpring Internet access and Web
hosting services.
* You may refer an unlimited number of new MindSpringers and receive a
$60 credit for each of them.
