Pete,

I traded about 5 years from my desk. My retirement was enforced, i.e. I got laid off. Considering they were paying me a fortune to do nothing (and let me trade all day), I'd probably still be doing it if it weren't for the pink slip.

Once out on my own, there was never a question of going back to another similar job (claims manager for an insurance company).

Have to add that I'm more fortunate than most. I have two sources of income. My web site does very well and that takes the pressure off my trading performance. In fact, the site has grown in lock step with my trading profits. There's lot to be said for keeping your stress level down while making trade decisions.
