<OT> Meta-DD: Notes About The Research Process.

Slow news day, gang. So, I thought I'd post something about the process of due diligence... in particular, my own methodology re: WAVX. If this is not helpful, I apologize in advance.

Beyond the obvious--checking WAVX's web site for the basics, perusing online pubs and content aggregation sites like wired.com, thestandard.net (The Industry Standard), redherring.com, ecommercetimes.com, infoworld.com, forbes.com, idg.net, industrywatch.com, allec.com (an excellent e-commerce resource site) and others--I spend a good deal of time rooting around various types of search engines.

And here are some of the keywords and phrases (ignoring the obvious like "Wave Systems", "EMBASSY chip," WaveMeter, Steven Sprague, and Peter Sprague) that I search for:
* "secure content distribution"
* "digital copyright protection"
* "money chip"
* cryptography
* "trusted client"
* "superdistribution"
* "micropayments"
* "secure e-commerce transactions"
* "software piracy"
* "transaction security"
* datacasting
* multicasting
* "enhanced television"
* "digital television"
* self-provisioning
* "metered content"
* "content metering"
* pay-per-play
* pay-as-you-go
* Nolan Bushnell
* George Gilder
* Mark Stefik

As far as excellent search engines, I have my old favorites and my new.

Old favorites: infoseek.com, lycos.com, altavista.com, metacrawler.com, northernlight.com, hotbot.com.

I particularly like the ease with which I can do searches within searches on Infoseek. This means that you can enter the words "trusted client", get those results, then search within that search
for references to "Wave Systems." Similarly, you can search for "George Gilder", get those results, then search within that search for
"Wave Systems."

New favorites: alltheweb.com and google.com.

Now, as far as other tried-and-true DD techniques...
(1): Study Raging Bull.
(1a): Study bigtim, JesseLivermore, DooWopGuy, Random1 (Trippi), CrazyLarry, SDR, (repeat: SDR), barge, Tony McFadden (forgot his handle). There are others, but these are the ones that leap to mind.
(2): Check out investor threads for WAVX "supply chain" partners like Sigma Designs and Atmel and Hewlett-Packard and, of course, HAUP.
(3): Periodically check out the WAVX site employment page looking for hints re: new product or service initiatives.
(4): Keep your eye on the uwink.com and pcfreecomputers.com.

There's other stuff I could talk about, but, if you're just starting out, this is a pretty good foundation.

Best Regards,

c m
