Walter, Lucent is already working to improve its EPAC. At the IMX they indicated that future versions should be backward compatible with devices designed to use the current version of EPAC. Their continuing research into compression technology is one reason why they felt so confident in the superiority of EPAC over their competition. Remember they have more incentive than most firms to improve their CODEC since it is used in their upcoming digital radio system and currently, in PAC form, in satellite digital television transmission. They also have better resources to improve their CODEC because of their ownership of Bell Labs. By the way, good research job. We now have confirmation from IBM that only EPAC is being used in the SanDiego Madison Project. Jim
