Toy, That study by IDC is very positive on MSFT. The only negative according to them was that adoption of Windows2k would take place over a longer period of time. Respondents in the study also said they have no plans to immediately roll out the Windows 2000 operating system. Organizations of all types and sizes indicated they plan to wait anywhere from 6 to 18 months before beginning wide-scale implementation of the new Microsoft enterprise operating system. The number-one reason given by respondents for the delay in adopting Windows 2000 was technical stabilization of the operating system. A full 50% of respondents said the technical stabilization of Windows 2000 would cause them to delay implementation. "Past issues with first-release operating systems from Microsoft have caused organizations to reign in their Windows 2000 deployment plans," said William Peterson, research manager for IDC's Client Infrastructure Software programs. "This is not to say Windows 2000 will not be a success; just the opposite, IDC believes Windows 2000 will succeed - over time." A few things to remember: -I believe an analyst from this organization was on TV last year saying how Windows98 was not going to be the success it turned out to be. Must have used the same kind of surveys to arrive at those conclusions. -Once deployment by organizations begins, something will happen. It is known as fear. There would be the fear that a company's competitors are commencing early adoption. Now that would create a bit of a panic and the deployment plans will be moving up. Then we are off to the races!!! -What IT managers say in surveys may not be indicative of their real plans. As it is well known that there is a "slight" tendency among IT people to dislike or hate MSFT. These people are not going to respond to the survey truthfully especially if they are likely to be pro-MSFT result. Ultimately, they will go with MSFT once they have consulted with the other big wigs in the company. Considering these companies are in tough competitive environments (in their line of business), the tendency will be there to go with the brand name supported by the world's richest company. No matter what the survey says. Now here we go. RAH RAH RAH---Go Microsoft !!!! <ggg>
