Many of Leonardo's ideas were turned into reality. He dreamt of flying and studied birds and envisioned flight and the consequences of what might happen to the pilot if the machine broke down in the air, hence he invented the parachute (a model of which was built and tested some decades ago according to his drafts -- it worked!). He also envisioned boats that could travel underwater like fish carrying their own air supply, but he could not carry the concept any further because the engine he needed to propel the device had not yet been invented. Do not discount the genius of Man!

A child's toy was found among the artifacts in an Egyptian tomb and sat in the British Museum for many years until one day one of the staff noticed the birdlike, light wood carving was aerodynamic and even had wings shaped like an airfoil. On impulse he tossed it in the air. It flew. He had discovered the earliest glider found to date, some thousands of years old.
