Wonder if that's a common trait amongst day traders.

From years of meeting all kinds of private traders, I can assure you that it is indeed a common trait. There is usually a zest for the independence combined with an overwhelming small-business sort of entrepreneurial streak, and a loathing of the corporate world, sometimes long-developed, sometimes from the get-go.

Almost all the successful traders I've met have these characteristics in abundance, myself included. I value the independence more than the bucks, although the two are tightly coupled. As Oz observed recently about something similar, "they walk side by side".
