Dialogic will now have competition in Internet Telephony. See the following:

Lucent Unveils Internet Telephony System

WARREN, N.J. - Lucent Technologies said today it has introduced a new system that allows callers to use ordinary telephones or fax machines to place calls over the Internet.

Lucent said MCI Communications and France Telecom each plans to try out Lucent's platform, called Lucent Internet Telephony Server SP, while GTE Corp's GTE Telephone Operations said it plans to conduct a
laboratory evaluation of Lucent's platform beginning this May.

The announcement moves the status of Internet telephony beyond PC novelty to telephone carrier capacity, vastly expanding the potential market for calling systems over the Internet.

The systems can work in any public switched network to route telephone calls over data networks such as the Internet, Lucent said. The technology will allow inter-exchange and local carriers, Internet service providers, cable companies or competitive access providers to offer an alternative to traditional long-distance calling.

Lucent said it plans to make the systems generally available in the third quarter of the 1997 calendar year.
