I have been told there is something called a non-hypothecation notification - it should be an alternative to calling certs, and should prevent the broker to lend your shares out for short-selling.
A possible example ? for such below:

----------------------------------------------
xyz Broker
xxxxx
xxxxx
xxxxx

mytown xx/xx/xxxx
Regarding my account #: xx-xx-xx-xxx-xx
=======================================

Dear Sirs,

This is a non-hypothecation notification.

I hereby advise you that I am not allowing any form of
lending any equity of mine for short selling or other purposes.

Initially this action is in particular regarding Xyz Inc.
OTCBB:XXXX, so if any XXXX shares of mine are borrowed for
the time being, it must immediately be covered.

Please respond when appropriate action have been taken.

Best regards
