After it sets for a time it may not be as hot. Give the acids time to neutralize.

Next time you are near a lumberyard or hardware store pick up some of those throw away plastic gloves that they use when mixing epoxy. They will protect your fingers when chopping hot peppers. From the peppers that is, they're not knife proof. You can get a bunch for a buck. Oh, you might wear them next time you paint too.
