Company Signs Deal With Research in Motion (RIM) to Offer Unique and Innovative BlackBerry Wireless E-Mail Solution to rcn.com Subscribers
PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- RCN Corporation (Nasdaq: RCNC - news) announced today that it has signed a deal with Research In Motion, Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM, Toronto: RIM) that will allow rcn.com Internet customers to be the first in the nation to send and receive e-mails through their existing Internet e-mail accounts from anywhere at anytime. The deal further differentiates RCN from other Internet service providers (ISPs) and extends the rcn.com Internet brand in an exciting, valuable and unique way.
Through the deal, RCN will make RIM's BlackBerry(TM) wireless e-mail solution available to all of its 500,000+ rcn.com subscribers. The BlackBerry solution includes a small hand-held device with an Intel386(TM) processor, wireless modem, 2 MB memory, docking cradle and integrated e-mail/organizer. It is the first complete, integrated, wireless e-mail solution for the mobile professional -- and will allow rcn.com subscribers to originate, forward, and reply to e-mail throughout the day with mailbox integration and a fully- featured connected organizer with PC synchronization.
