However there s no need to read that article only for me, I won't challenge you again on that one. Both our assumptions were astute enough to make us independent from that version.

My main interest for the recommendation were the date (1994, five years ago) and the explicit reference to Gorbachev. However surprising it was that Gorby had such freedoms, Andropov had been Mr. KGB and promoted Gorbachev. This should not be overlooked.

Also, as far as I can get it, Nikita Chrushchev has had surprising freedom of maneuvre, compared to Brezhnev. Which brings me to the question: did you notice that (I think: Sergej) Chrushchev, son of Nikita, is a professor in N.Y. by now?
