Thanks Bob. Re " I hope there isn't another period of political and economic (currency) instability", next week will give us the answer when the major trades' unions threaten to strike.

I'm actually quite pessimistic. I don't believe the ANC government has the balls to take them on. If the government does take them on, however, the trades unions and Communist Party will withdraw their support following which the government will be in political limbo.

Re the gold story, and considering the enormous production figures, it certainly appears that there is BIG demand for the metal. One gets the feeling that when CB/IMF/Swiss selling dries up demand will definitely overtake supply. Of course, that may still take a little time.
