Am interested in a position in QWST, and am wondering if anyone thinks there may be some validity in this post from yesterday on the Raging Bull. Might the upgrade have been to provide an exit for some?

Commentary on todays trading of QWST...

Shares of Qwest Communications are trading up $2 1/16 to $31 1/8 on strong volume approaching 9.8 million shares. Qwest's average daily volume is 7.5 million. Block trading is light - with just 18% of total volume related to transactions of 10K or more. This indicates that today's jump is largely related to speculative buyers with short-term investment horizons.

The "Smart" money, on the other hand, appears to be selling into the rally - as supported by the strong advertising of Super Sell Messages on AutEx. In terms of reported trading data, Charles Schwab's Mayer & Schweitzer, a broker known for executing on behalf of retail investors, leads the pack, claiming about 1 million shares in trades. The institutional reports are split between several large market makers. An rise in volume associated with short-term oriented traders often portends increasing volatility for a stock.
