Very significant, positive development for AMD:

With fewer customers adopting Mercede, Intel has to rely on the existing IA-32 chips to make its financial numbers work until its 7th generation chip and new version of IA-64 coming along.

Intel may be forced to be less agressive on the pricing front in its battle with AMD as a result of this HP Mercede abandonment.
