More anecdotal information. I talked to a band parent today. She was telling me about chaperoning her daughter's band to a football game Friday night. She said she would also be a chaperone on the band's cruise next spring. Yeah, you got that right--a cruise, as in Carnival Cruise Lines.
She said money was going to be raised through a reverse raffle. She then added that they needed to raise about $45,000. Let me say that again--forty-five thousand dollars. I asked if they could raise that much money with a raffle. She said, "Oh, no. They will have to do other things, but the kids will raise the money."
I asked her if she wanted to hear about a new fund-raising idea. I told her about the MusicCard and the web site. Her reaction? "Oh, that's new and different. The kids are so tired of pizza cards and Krispy Kreme cards they won't go near those. But this sounds good. I'll mention this at the fundraising meeting next month."
I, of course, provided her with the web site addresses of TSIG and the MyMusicCard. I suggested she might want to call the company and have them send her some information which she could have available at the fundraising meeting. She was very pleased to hear about a new idea.
Why do I post this? To make the following points: 1) It would be practically impossible to over-estimate the need for fundraising in the public schools. 2) School has just barely started (or not started at all in some districts), and it would be ridiculous to think all the fundraising plans are in place. It ain't so. 3) Parents and kids ARE tired of the same old projects. 4) Parents and kids are excited by something new, innovative, profitable, and easy.
