Here's another bit of QWST trivia that I just ran across on the comp.dcom.xdsl newsgroup. Turns out that BellAtlantic's ISP uses a Qwest company for its internet backbone. They were a customer of IconNet inherited by Qwest along with the acquisition of ICMP in December.

USWest.net does not (yet) use Qwest. Their primary backbone is WCOM's alter.net with sprintnet as a secondary. I'm not sure about BellSouth or Ameritech. When I tracert to either of them (through uswest.net), all of the traffic stays on alter.net, but that might be because they are a secondary backbone for one or the other.

PacBell and the rest of SBC seem to use digex.net.

Since uswest.net is non-regulated, I expect to see them switch over to the Qwest network by the time the merger is completed.
