So... the NEC Gigastation box has an MPEG-2 codec in it. I think it smells like CUBE......... The GigaStation can identify the optimum compression mode based on both the recording time selected by the user and the disc's available space. Some models of video recorders conforming to the VHS format have a function to shift a 3x speed while recording. The GigaStation, on the other hand, uses a variable-bit-rate compression encoder that enables it to choose the most suitable rate between 2.7Mbps to 5.5Mbps.
