I read the AMD test results at Tom's Hardware page, and was very impressed. I checked pricewatch to see the prices on the Athalon, and was shocked. Considering that the K7 blows away the PIII at high end floating point work, and considering that they are likely to be in scarce supply for (quite) awhile, why are they so cheap?

To me it seems like you shouldn't be able to buy any Athalon for less than $800-900. I would expect that those lucky enough to get shipments will be marking the chips up 50% or more quite a bit before selling them.
