In the context of the circumstance, I would consider such action on the part of the hypothetical woman or man selfish.
It seems to me, unwillingness to reproduce would be the equivalent of murdering (or committing suicide for) the entire human race.

This is not meant to dismiss the depth of your feelings. You were courageous to express them fully and honestly.
